I'm working on a way to improve collaboration on the site. The exciting thing you will be able to do is to list yourself as available for collaboration and find others willing to collaborate. You can specify your skill (instrument or vocal, mixing, mastering) and genres you are comfortable with. This will be searchable, so it should be easy to find available people.
Once you are ready to upload a song, you have a way to list collaborators, as before, but there will be more to it. Collaborators can be thought of in two different categories: co-artists and contributors. A co-artist is someone who has potentially helped write the song, sang on it, or otherwise had a profound influence in the creation of the song. A contributor is someone who has simply given some much-appreciated help, such as laying down a sax solo or mixing the song. A co-artist will appear in the byline of the song. Below that, co-artists and contributors will be listed, along with how they contributed.
I think this will help people find collaborators and also make it clearer who did what on any particular song.
In the future, I might allow a way for pro's or semipro's to even charge for their services. I'm not promising that, but it's an idea I'm kicking around.
Sounds like it could be fun, and it certainly has the potential to both encourage collabs and make the process a bit easier.
It would be nice to see more collabs.
