Song information
I have been quiet for a little while. I recently spent time with my Mom and helped sort through some family matters following the passing of my father earlier this year.
This new song was inspired by the beautiful blackbirds we hear here in Germany. Their rich, flute-like song fills the mornings and brings the landscape to life. Blackbirds are also found throughout Europe and the UK, and of course, Paul McCartney famously found inspiration in them too.
The cello parts were created by layering two separate performances by Gemma, so the second cello you hear is also Gem playing another take.
Piotr joined me on guitar and brought the whole track together with his mix.
We hope you enjoy the song. More importantly, we hope it encourages you to spend a little time outdoors, slow down, listen carefully and enjoy the extraordinary music that nature gives us every day.

Lyrics

Before the sun has touched the trees,

A silver song floats on the breeze,

So clear and soft, it finds my soul,

And makes the broken morning whole.

Blackbird singing, sweet and bright,

Turning darkness into light,

Like a flute above the rain,

You lift my heart and ease my pain.

Paul McCartney heard your morning call,

And wrote of blackbirds after all,

Now every note you sing at dawn,

Reminds me why his song lives on.

Blackbird singing, sweet and bright,

Turning darkness into light,

Like a flute above the rain,

You lift my heart and ease my pain.

You greet the day from branches high,

Your music drifting through the sky,

Each gentle note so pure and free,

Feels like you’re singing just for me.

Blackbird singing, sweet and bright,

Turning darkness into light,

Like a flute above the rain,

You lift my heart and ease my pain.

Some of your most endearing vocals to date, Mo...
Love Gemma's plaintive cellos, and how can one not reference Sir Paul when singing about blackbirds?
Simply lovely!

Including Paul McCartney into your song is innovative. I recently wrote a song called Deal Paul ... also referring to him. You've written a lovely song. We don't have singing Blackbirds here in Canada...just crows which I wrote about as well LOL!! The violin passages are very nice!
