I wrote and recorded this right before the pandemic hit in January 2020 on a Boss BR 1200, which I bought a super long time ago. I feel like I'm especially going out on a limb with this one. The first part was myself trying to emulate the synth excercises Steve Miller had on albums like Fly Lke An Eagle and Book Of Dreams, but much more beefed up. There's a big story to the "Superstar" part. The lyrics were written after reading a unsettling article in Rolling Stone about Britney Spears (I am not a fan of her music, but felt compelled to read it anyway). It talked about how from the beginning of her life basically, she was told by everyone how to do everything and wasn't given much in the way of freewill. Kind of like what Michael Jackson went through, but a lot worse. Musically, there a few inspirations for it. Rock Candy by Montrose was a big one. I had been in a band where we played "Ah Leah," by Donnie Iris, and I took the vocals on that one. I did the screaming at the end, and the other guys in the band seemed impressed with that in a good way. "Jeez, Mark, did you tighten your pants real good for that"? We only played that out once, so maybe I figured I'd do something similar here. I think I just wanted to be able to hit the real high notes llike Plant, Daltrey, and all them just one time. When I put this on You Tube, it seemed to get a great response, and a lot of people have told me they really like it. A few others have said they didn't. I didn't have any pitch correction software, so I worked hard to get it right the best I could. Maybe if someone out there has a mastery of that stuff? Hope you like.

Poor Britney. I'm not familiar with her music either, but she was a big part of the pop music landscape when I was growing up, so like many others I've watched from a distance how her life and mental health have deteriorated over the years. In any event, this is a great rocker that aptly captures the sad aspects  of her tale, and you're definitely crushing the "classic rock lead singer" role
