In 2010 I recorded 30 hymns on piano for my father’s birthday present. I had burned them to CD, designed a nice cover, trying to make it look like a store bought present. A while back I found it and decided to remaster some tracks using iPad audio tools. They were all recorded in one sitting, live, on an upright Yamaha piano, using 2 mics going straight into a DAT recorder. I didn’t know much how to mic pianos, I just opened the top lid and did an x/y mic pattern near the lid opening.

‘When He Cometh’ was written in the 1850’s by William Cushing and it was the first hymn he wrote. It’s sometimes called ‘Jewels’ in hymnals. I played it kind of improvised, meditative-like so my dad could listen while working or studying.

After loading the audio file into AUM on my iPad, I applied a deessor/compressor using MixBox, Toneboosters EQ (warm), Spatializer (cozy space), and Toneboosters Reverb (hall-lush).
