Just got a batch of songs back from Elyssia, recorded late last year and early this year, so there’s more coming soon.

Always a pleasure working with her, and this time she’s added her beautiful backing vocals to the mix.

I also treated myself to a cheap fretless bass (J&D) last weekend. I’d had my eye on it for almost a year. It’s a brand I’d never heard of, but run through Logic’s amps, I’m seriously impressed. And replaced the bass I originally recorded with the Fretless.

The inspiration here is Tony Levin. I’m a huge fan of his fretless technique on the Peter Gabriel tracks ‘Sledgehammer’ and ‘Don’t Give Up’, both of which feature Levin on fretless. But I digress.

Anyway, it’s great to finally get playing around with it.

This song is about looking back on what might have been with someone else in your life. Did you make the right choice, or do you stick with the devil you know?

Lyrics
WHAT MIGHT OF BEEN
by Gerald G ©Copyright 2026

I met you when my world was falling down,
A broken man with nowhere left to go.
You saw a light in me I'd never found,
And gave me love I never thought I'd know.

I chose the past and threw away the best,
A love that gave me more than I could see.
Now every night I live with my regret,
And dream of what our lives were meant to be.

You called me your salvation, your saving grace,
But shadows from my past stood in our way.
I promised you those ties would soon be gone,
But I was far too weak to make them stay away.

I chose the past and threw away the best,
A love that gave me more than I could see.
Now every night I live with my regret,
And dream of what our lives were meant to be.

Instrumental

I went back to a love that had grown cold,
And found that nothing there was left for me.
I tried to reach you, but you'd closed the door,
Now all I have is what we used to be.

I chose the past and threw away the best,
A love that gave me more than I could see.
Now every night I live with my regret,
And dream of what our lives were meant to be.

I like this a lot. Ear-wormmy qualities. Haunting.

Oooh! Really digging the fretless bass. Cheap bass or not, it sounds fantastic and really adds to the tone of the song. And ditto on the Tony Levin bass. It's a fabulous sound.
And a great song it is! Breathless and melancholy. Enjoyed it!
