This is a cover of a tune that was originally written and performed by a late great but sadly almost forgotten soul man by the name of Bobby Womack. Shortly afterwards, Rufus with Chaka Khan also did a version where Chaka sang it as a duet with the band's guitarist Tony Maiden, which is how I initially came to know and really like the song. After hearing Bobby's original version, I decided I wanted to try doing it. I can't scream or growl like he could it, but I still think it came out alright. Two suggestions: Anyone who's a fan of 70's soul funk should check out the Rufusized album, as that's got some incredible stuff. Also, an episode of the Midnight Special show from 1974 where Bobby is hosting is on You Tube at present. Check that out if you get the chance, he was quite a performer and a character too.
