I've been in snowstorms like the one depicted here, both in a car and on foot.

 just a few seconds later, it started snowing like crazy. literally zero visibility - we could see nothing outside. and about a minute later it was done. soon after, the sun came out again. i never have seen such an intense snow squall again. it was impressive and frightening!

While living in North Central Illinois years back and living out in the country, I got up one morning to go to work. With the wind chill factor it was like 80 below. My mustache and beard froze on the way out to the car. Amazingly it started! (It always did... '66 Nash Rambler if memory serves...) I drove to the top of the hill headed for the highway. It was like the surface of Mars. I was surrounded by empty cornfields with farm houses wayyy in the distance on both sides. I realized that if I slid off those icy and wind swept roads I would freeze to death before I could walk to safety. I slowly, carefully, and gradually got turned around and slowly headed back home.
